Texas Southern splits with Prairie View A&M, clinches West Division Title
HOUSTON - Texas Southern salvaged a double-header split with arch-rival Prairie View A&M to clinch the SWAC Western Division Championship for the seventh-consecutive season. The Lady Panthers won game one by a score of 4-1 behind a complete-game effort from Crystal Castillo, who struck out eight in the win. Gabrielle Fonseca was 2-for-3 in the contest, hitting a two-run home run and driving in three runs.
The Lady Tigers shutout PVAMU 5-0 in the second contest to seal the No. 1 seed in next week's SWAC Softball Tournament. Naomi Reyes pitched a four-hit shutout, striking out seven for Texas Southern in the win. Tevanae Tate and Lauryn Banks both homered in the contest.
