2019 SWAC Outdoor Track and Field Day One Recap

Day One Results     Championship Central

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas - The Southern University men (24) and Grambling State University women's (32) Track and Field teams sit atop the standings after day one of the 2019 SWAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted on the scenic campus of Prairie View A&M University. 

Arkansas-Pine Bluff (14) and Southern (13) round out the top three team finishes on the women’s side. The Lady Tigers of Grambling State claimed three of the top five finishes in the Women’s 10,000 Meter Run for a total of 28 points. Grambling State's Halima Chepkwony won with a time of 40:01.87.  

In men’s action, Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Grambling State (20) are currently tied for second, and Jackson State (19) sits third behind the Jaguars. Grambling State picked up 14 points in the Men’s 10,000 Meter Run and six points in the javelin. Vincent Langat from Jackson State repeated as champion with a time of 31:59.75.  

The Women's Hammer Throw event was won by Southern's Faith Estelle who set a new meet record with a throw of 56.50 meters, while the Men's Hammer Throw crown was claimed by UAPB's Miles Dortch with a throw of 52.25 meters.

Dortch also won the Men's Javelin for the third consecutive year with throw of 56.59 meters. A complete listing of the final results from day one of competition can be found by accessing the link above.
