#SWACGOLF Alabama State Claims 2019 SWAC Women's Golf Title
ALEXANDRIA, La. - The Alabama State Lady Hornets claimed the 2019 SWAC Women’s Golf Championship title behind dominant performances from their field of five golfers.
Alabama State has now claimed six out of the last seven SWAC Championships including winning back-to-back titles (2018, 2019).
ASU, who led by 24 strokes following the opening round, ended the tournament with a 605 and finished 49 strokes ahead of second place Texas Southern. The Lady Hornets had four players shoot 79 or better, and had the best five rounds of the day individually between the teams competing.
Texas Southern finished second in the tournament with a 654, while Prairie View A&M finished third with a two-day total of 702.
The Lady Hornets dominated the final day with all five players finishing inside the top five, including Shania Jones with medalist honors. She finished the tournament with a three-over par (147), including a final round 71 to claim the title; while teammate Jade Sanders finished second with a six-over par (150) after a final round 79.
Kei Harris, who entered the day tied for fifth, fired a final round 76 to finish third with a 10-over par (154); one shot ahead of teammate Mack Bailey in fourth at 11-over (155). Abigail Pederson rounded out the top five for Alabama State with a two-day total of 14-over par (158).
