2019 #SWACBOWL Tournament Recap: Day Two
ARLINGTON, Texas – The 2019 Southwestern Athletic Conference Women’s Bowling Tournament finals are set as Jackson State and Prairie View A&M outlasted all comers to advance to the championship match during day two action at the Bowling International Research and Training Center.
Jackson State, which earned the top seed in the tournament, advanced through the winner’s bracket after outlasting Southern in a seven-game clash. The Lady Tigers erased a 3-1 deficit and sealed their spot in the title game by scores of 200-191, 177-202, 139-182, 167-137, 236-170, 182-178, 191-156.
The Lady Panthers punched their ticket to the final round with a 4-2 win over Southern (208-171, 150-157, 210-156, 176-137, 185-190, 168-151).
This will mark a rematch of the 2016 finals, where Jackson State won its first-ever tournament championship 4-2. That contest saw Prairie View A&M force a sudden-death match versus the Lady Tigers after prevailing in the opening match.
The championship match will begin at 1 p.m. and will be aired on ESPNU March 31 at 9:30 p.m. Prairie View A&M must defeat Jackson State twice in order to claim the title. The Lady Tigers did not taste defeat during Saturday’s bracket play.
The all-tournament team was also recognized. The honorees along with day two highlights are listed below:

Earlier Match Results:
- Third-seeded Southern began the day with a comeback victory, erasing a 0-2 deficit to take down No. 6 seed Alabama A&M 4-2. The Jaguars nearly fell behind 3-1 but strung together four consecutive strikes to steal the fourth game. From there, Southern claimed the fifth and sixth games to advance in the bracket (118-146, 143-184, 173-138, 195-124, 169-133).
- The Jaguars carried their momentum into the next round, sweeping No. 2 seed Prairie View A&M (199-190, 188-165, 183-167, 175-173).
- Alabama State and Texas Southern needed a roll-off to decide their opening round match, as both sides were tied after seven games thanks to a tie in game one. Ultimately, Alabama State prevailed in the tie-breaker to advance to the next round (166-166, 147-169, 207-183, 200-166, 150-189, 206-183, 168-185, 94-77).
- The Lady Hornets went down to the wire in their second match as well, but top-seeded Jackson State was up to the task, overcoming a 3-2 deficit to advance in the tournament in seven games (190-187, 216-185, 139-151, 159-232, 158-161, 178-141, 189-166).
- After falling to Jackson State, Alabama State was relegated to the first elimination match of the day versus Alabama A&M. The Lady Hornets bested their in-state rival 4-0 (166-149, 177-144, 179-153, 161-124), eliminating the Lady Bulldogs from contention.
- In another battle of arch-rivals, Prairie View A&M outlasted defending champion Texas Southern, eliminating the Lady Tigers in seven games (166-162, 172-191, 171-160, 158-194, 173-136, 200-169).
- The Lady Panthers went on to oust Alabama State from the tournament as well, prevailing in seven games over the Lady Hornets (187-155, 135-174, 146-193, 180-170, 196-177, 158-203, 235-129).
