2019 #SWACBOWL Tournament Recap: Day One
ARLINGTON, Texas – Day one of the 2019 Southwestern Athletic Conference Women's Bowling Tournament got underway Friday, with Jackson State claiming the No. 1 seed in bracket play following an impressive outing on the lanes at the Bowling International Research and Training Center.
The Lady Tigers knocked down a combined 4,514 pins, earning a first-round bye in the tournament. Prairie View A&M also garnered a first-round bye by virtue of finishing second in total pinfall (4,407).
Southern clinched the third seed with a pinfall of 4,338 and will take on No. 6 seed Alabama A&M (3,575) tomorrow. Earning the No. 4 seed was Alabama State after a pinfall of 4,272 in the qualifying round, and the Lady Hornets will face No. 5 seed and defending champion Texas Southern (4,229 pinfall) to begin tournament play.
Alabama State's Bailee Chapman led all individual bowlers with an average pinfall of 191.4 per game. Following Champman in the individual standings were Jackson State's Natalie Cura (189.8), Southern's Elizabeth Voisin (187.0), and Jackson State's Tierra Jackson (186.4). Southern's Sarah Leduff and Prairie View A&M's Jada Davis finished tied for fifth with an average pinfall of 185.
