Southern's season concludes at NCAA Tournament
STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Southern University women’s basketball team saw its season come to an end at the hands of No. 1 seed Mississippi State, as the Jaguars fell to the Bulldogs 103-46 Friday evening during the opening round of the NCAA Tournament at Humphrey Coliseum.
The Jaguars end the season at 20-13. Mississippi State improved to 31-2 with the win.
Skylar O’Bear led Southern with nine points. Alyric Scott added eight points and five rebounds. The Jaguars had 10 different players score during the contest.
Rishonti Cowart knocked down a three-pointer early on to give the Jaguars a brief lead, but Mississippi State responded with a 9-0 run to take control. Jaden Towner nailed a trey to pull Southern within nine midway through the opening quarter, but the Jaguars would get no closer as the Bulldogs closed the quarter with a 20-2 run and cruised to the win from that point.
Anriel Howard led the Bulldogs with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Teaira McCowan added 22 points and a team-best 16 boards.
