SWAC set to host 2019 Bowling Championship

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) will host the 2019 SWAC Women’s Bowling Championship this Friday through Sunday, March 22-24, at the Bowling ITRC Lanes in Arlington, Texas.

The top six finishers in regular season team standings will look to bring home a championship title with an automatic NCAA qualifying bid also up for grabs.

Prairie View A&M (20-4) put together a perfect 4-0 record on the final day of the SWAC Women’s Bowling East Roundup at Cypress Lanes, to clinch the regular season conference bowling championship.

The Lady Panthers entered the final day of the roundup one game back of the Lady Hornets before overtaking the 2018 regular season champion. Prairie View A&M amassed a total pin count of 27,404, good for an average of 195.74 per game. Alabama State finished second with a 19-5 conference record, leading all teams with a 27,613 pin count and 197.23 average per game.

Jackson State finished third with a 17-7 record in SWAC play, and rounding out the standings were Southern (13-11), Texas Southern (11-13), Alabama A&M (3-21) and Grambling State (1-23). 

The opening round of the championships will take place on Friday at noon (qualifying round) with teams competing for seeding, while Saturday’s and Sunday’s events will feature a baker format (best 4 of 7) with the top two seeds receiving a bye to open competition on Saturday.
