Lady Panthers down Southern, N.C. Central on Day 2 of Chef Celeste Classic
ZACHARY, La. – The Prairie View A&M University softball team picked up victories over North Carolina Central and Southern by scores of 13-2 and 5-1 during day two of the Chef Celeste Classic. The Lady Panthers jumped ahead early on N.C. Central, using a 10-run third inning to pull away. Megan Jimenez was 2-for-2 with five RBI, and Destinee Williams was 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBI.
Against Southern, Prairie View plated two runs in the fifth and sixth innings, cruising from there. Gabrielle Fonseca knocked in two runs, while Ashley Higgins picked up the win with a complete-game one-hitter.

Jackson State drops pair of contests in Southern Miss tournament
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Jackson State University softball team fell 11-3 to Central Arkansas and 4-0 to Houston Baptist during day two of the Southern Miss-hosted Black and Gold Invitational. The Lady Tigers fell behind 11-0 to Central Arkansas, and though Kelsey Smith picked up a pair of RBI in the fifth, the deficit proved insurmountable. Four different UCA players collected two hits each, and Libby Morris hit a two-run homer to aid the Sugar Bears’ cause.
Against Houston Baptist, Jackson State was held to a pair of hits, one each from Smith and Ariana Cruz.

Lady Hornets handle Howard
ZACHARY, La.- Alabama State used an explosion of early runs and another solid pitching performance en route to a 10-1 win against Howard on the second day of the Chef Celeste Softball Challenge.

MVSU falls to Southeastern Louisiana, Northern Illinois
HAMMOND, La. – The Mississippi Valley State University softball team fell 19-4 to host Southeastern Louisiana and 8-0 to Northern Illinois during day two of the Lion Classic.
The Devilettes managed 11 hits but allowed 16 runs to Southeastern Louisiana in the first inning, creating a deficit too large to overcome. Demi Slater smacked a three-run home for MVSU late in the contest. Bobbi Smith (two hits, two runs, four RBI) and Ali McCoy (two hits, three runs, three RBI) led the charge for Southeastern Louisiana.
The Devilettes’ bats were held to two hits versus Northern Illinois, one each from Lexany Terrones and DeShonte Smith.

GSU opens season with wins over Fort Valley State, Tuskegee
ACWORTH, Ga.- Tia Coleman belted a solo home run in the opening game and Rikkelle Miller blasted a two-run game-winning homer in the second game as the Grambling State University softball team begins the season 2-0 for the first time since 2010.
