  Balanced scoring attack pushes Jackson State past Grambling State

JACKSON, Miss. – Led by Chris Howell’s 17 points and seven rebounds, the Jackson State University men’s basketball team (10-17, 7-7) defeated Grambling State (13-14, 7-7) 71-60 Saturday evening during a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) contest at Lee E. Williams Athletic Assembly Center.
 
Jayveous McKinnis added 16 points and seven rebounds for Jackson State, and Venjie Walls posted 13 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals. Ivy Smith Jr. led Grambling State with 19 points and four rebounds.

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Devonte Patterson had 20 points and 13 rebounds as the Prairie View A&M men’s basketball team (14-12, 12-1) defeated Mississippi Valley State (5-23, 3-11) 69-63 on Saturday evening during Southwestern Athletic Conference action at the William J. Nicks Building.

Gary Blackston had 13 points and eight rebounds for Prairie View A&M. Dante Scott had 18 points and nine rebounds for the Delta Devils. Patrick Rucker added 11 points.

Box Score Johnson leads Alcorn State past Alabama State in overtime

LORMAN, Miss. – Reginal Johnson forced overtime with a 3-pointer in the final minute of regulation, then scored eight points in the extra period to spur the Alcorn State University men’s basketball team (9-17, 5-9) to a 74-69 Southwestern Athletic Conference win over Alabama State (10-14, 8-5) Saturday evening at the Davey L. Whitney Complex.

Johnson led the Braves with 23 points and 11 boards. Maurice Howard and Troymain Crosby each added 14 points. Jacoby Ross had 21 points to lead Alabama State, and Reginald Gee added 16 points.

BATON ROUGE, La. – Sidney Umude poured in 18 points as the Southern University men’s basketball team topped Alabama A&M 59-49 Saturday afternoon in a Southeastern Athletic Conference men's basketball game.
 
Southern (5-22, 4-10 in SWAC) raced out to an eight-point halftime lead and never looked back. Richard Lee finished with 12 points for Southern. Brandon Miller and Evan Wiley each led Alabama A&M (5-22, 4-9) with nine points

HOUSTON – Jeremy Combs put up 27 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Texas Southern University men’s basketball team to a 94-74 win over the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Saturday evening during Southwestern Athletic Conference action in H&PE Arena.

Jalyn Patterson added 19 points and five assists for Texas Southern (15-11, 10-3), shooting 5-of-9 from beyond the arc. Martaveous McKnight scored 23 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead the Golden Lions (11-16, 8-6), and Shaun Doss scored 14 points.
