Alcorn State sweeps Kentucky State in Friday double-header
VICKSBURG, Miss. – The Alcorn State University softball team swept Kentucky State Friday evening in double-header action, winning game one 15-1 and game two 3-0.
Alcorn State used a seven-run first inning to seize control in the opening contest, adding eight more runs over the third and fourth innings. Alcorn State pounded out 16 hits, with four Lady Braves recording multi-hit games. Sandrea Hord was 2-for-3 with three RBI, and Brittney Tripplet went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and a pair of RBI.
In game two, Paige Taylor – who also earned the victory in game one – pitched a three-hit shutout while the Lady Braves managed a pair of scores in the fourth, getting another run across in the sixth.

Southern drops twin-bill to Evansville
CENTRAL, La. – The Southern University softball team dropped both sides of a doubleheader to Evansville by scores of 3-1 and 5-4. In game one, Southern used small ball to strike first, but Evansville’s Eryn Gould hit a two-run home run in the fifth to put the Purple Aces ahead. Evansville added an insurance run in the sixth.
In game two, Southern fell behind 5-0 after a three-run homer from Lindsay Rennisen. The Lady Jaguars’ clawed back into it as an one-out, three-run blast from Kameri Mott in the bottom of the seventh made the game 5-4. However, Southern was unable to generate further offense.

Prairie View A&M splits on day one of Lion Classic II
HAMMOND, La. – The Prairie View A&M softball team went 1-1 on the opening day of the SELA Lion Classic II, defeating Southern Illinois-Edwardsville 8-6 but dropping a 7-0 contest to host Southeastern Louisiana.

Jackson State falls to Stephen F. Austin, Louisiana
LAFAYETTE, La. - The Jackson State University softball team fell 7-3 to Stephen F. Austin and 9-1 to host Louisiana-Lafayette during day one of the Louisiana Classic.
Down 6-0 to Stephen F. Austin entering the fifth, the Lady Tigers got a two RBI triple off of Marlisa Scott's bat and then a RBI sacrifice bunt from Ariana Cruz as Scott reached home plate to make it 6-3. However, Jackson State got no closer, and the Ladyjacks added another run late for the final margin.
Jackson State was held to one hit versus the Ragin’ Cajuns in a contest that saw five Lady Tiger errors. Kara Gremillion and Kourtney Gremillion each picked up a pair of RBI for Louisiana in the contest.

Mississippi Valley State falls to Louisiana Tech
RUSTON, La.- The Mississippi Valley State University softball team was held to three hits in a 15-0 loss to host Louisiana Tech during day one of the La Tech Invitational
The Devilettes were done in by the long ball, as Louisiana Tech hit three home runs – two of them of the three-run variety – en route to a 13-0 lead after two. Mississippi Valley State was unable to recover from the deficit.

UAPB falls to Creighton, North Texas
DENTON, Texas – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff softball team dropped a pair of contests to open the Mean Green Classic. UAPB was held to one-hit in a 10-0 loss to Creighton and allowed three home runs during a 9-1 setback versus host North Texas.

Rain shortens day one of Black and Gold Invitational
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Alabama State University-host Black and Gold Invitational was largely rained out Friday, as a steady downpour allowed the completion of one game, a 9-8 Alabama A&M loss to Tennessee-Martin.
Alabama State’s opening contest against Fort Wayne was postponed after five innings and is set to resume Sunday. At the time the game was halted, Alabama State trailed 7-4.
