Kelley named SWAC Football Coordinator of Officials
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named longtime league official Eddie Kelley as the new SWAC Football Coordinator of Officials.
Kelley joins the SWAC staff after serving the past 10 years as head referee. During his distinguished career in officiating he has also served as an official with the Southland (2012) and the PAC-12 (2017).
Over his career Kelley has worked a total of five SWAC Championship games, three Bayou Classics, and the 2016 6A Texas High School State Championship. He currently serves as the President of the SWAC Football Officiating Association.
“As we continue to make adjustments within our staff and administration, we saw Mr. Kelley as a great fit,” said SWAC Commissioner Dr. Charles McClelland. “His knowledge and experience officiating at the highest levels of collegiate athletics will greatly impact the football officiating within the conference as we look to continue to enhance and build upon the overall foundation.”
Aside from his officiating experience at the collegiate level, Kelley has also been a familiar face on the sidelines in the professional ranks serving as Assistant Kicking Ball Coordinator with the NFL and the Houston Texans.
“It is truly an honor to get opportunity to work with the Southwestern Athletic Conference as the Football Coordinator of Officials,” said Kelley. “The legacies and great traditions of this conference as it relates to competition in the sport of football is remarkable. I look forward to serving the league with honor and integrity while putting an exemplary product of officials on the field each date of competition.”
