2019 SWAC Indoor Track & Field Championship Day One Recap (Women)

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- Day one of the 2019 Southwestern Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships came to a close on Thursday with Alabama State leading the way on both the women’s side with 45 points.
Prairie View A&M (33) and Southern (28) finished the day in second and third place.
Day One Women’s Highlights:
- UAPB’s Safiya John was crowned champion in the women’s pentathlon racking up a total of 3,449 points.
- SU’s Faith Estelle claimed the weight throw title (17.09 m)
- PVAMU’s Kaizha Roberts won the long jump (5.83 m)
- Alabama State claimed the title in the distance medley with a time of 12:35.36
- ASU’s Arion Span was crowned champion in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:36.37
