BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the second consecutive week,
Texas Southern University forward Jeremy Combs has been named the Southwestern Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week after helping lead the Tigers to a win over rival Prairie View A&M. The league made the announcement Tuesday afternoon.
Combs posted 22 points, 14 rebounds and four steals against the Panthers, leading Texas Southern to a 95-90 victory this past Saturday. He shot 46.2 percent (6-of-13) from the field and 76.9 percent (10-of-13) from the foul line. The win snapped Prairie View A&M’s 11-game win streak and was the team’s first loss in conference play this season.
This marks the second double-double in three games for the Dallas, Texas native. Combs is third in the league in points (15.0) and sits atop the ranks in terms of rebounds (8.1) per game. He is shooting a league-best 57.4 percent from the field.

- Arkansas-Pine Bluff guard
Martaveous McKnight Averaged 19.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals in wins over Alabama State and Alabama A&M while shooting 44 percent (11-of-25) from the field and 80 percent (16-of-20) from the foul line.
- Mississippi Valley State guard
Jordan Evans averaged 17.5 points and 3.5 assists last week, scoring 21 points versus Alabama A&M and following with a 14-point effort against Alabama A&M.
- Grambling State’s
Ivy Smith Jr. averaged 18.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 4.0 steals in two double-digit victories over Alcorn State and Southern last week. He shot 55.6 percent (10-of-18) from the field and 94.1 percent (16-of-17) from the foul line.
- Prairie View A&M’s
Devonte Patterson scored 21 points in the Panthers’ 95-90 loss to Texas Southern.
