PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Howard women’s soccer team advanced to the semifinals of the 2019 Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament after defeating Southern, 1-0 at PVAMU Soccer Complex Thursday morning.
 
The Bison improve to 13-3 on the season, while the Jaguars conclude their 2019 season with a 4-12-1 record.
 
Arianna Morgan netted the lone goal of the match during the 20th minute of the first half. The goal came unassisted to the right corner of the net.
 
Southern threatened to score several times as they registered six shots during the contest, but only two shots on goal. Howard controlled the tempo tallying 19 shots, with eight shots on goal.
 
SU’s goalie Chioma Eriken collected seven saves, while 2019 SWAC Goalkeeper of the Year Alayah Hightower registered a light day for HU with two saves.
 
#1 Howard is set to face #5 Grambling State Friday, Nov. 8 at the PVAMU Soccer Complex at 3 p.m.

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – 2019 All-SWAC performer Florence David’s strike in the 77th minute allowed Grambling State to avenge an earlier season defeat versus Alabama A&M, as the Lady Tigers advanced to the semifinals of the 2019 Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament.

GSU moves to 10-10-1 on the season, while the Lady Bulldogs ended its 2019 season with a 9-9-1 overall record.

Grambling State advances to the semifinals to face No.1 seed Howard in a rematch of the 2018 SWAC Soccer Tournament Finals on Friday, Nov. 8 at the Prairie View A&M Soccer Complex at 3 p.m.     

The Lady Tigers added nine total shots, with four shots on goal, while Alabama A&M registered four shots and two shots on goal.

AAMU’s goalie Jodie Medina tallied three saves, one more than Grambling State’s goalie Rachel Pugh who recorded two saves during the match.

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Jackson State women’s soccer team secured its spot in the 2019 Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament semifinals by defeating Texas Southern in a shootout, 2-1 on Thursday evening at the Prairie View A&M Soccer Complex.

Jackson State improves to 8-11, while TSU concludes its 2019 season 6-11-1. A hard-fought match between the two, both teams finished with four shots on goal and three saves each.

Texas Southern outshot Jackson State, 7-6, with JSU’s Alexis Henriquez netting the first goal at the 22nd minute of the contest. TSU answered with a goal of its own when Taylor Stokes connected with Cassie Sandoval in the 44th minute of the match, knotting the game at 1-all.

JSU’s Ana Leticia Batista recorded the final shootout goal to give the Lady Tigers the victory.

Jackson State is slated to meet the winner of No. 2 Prairie View A&M and No. 7 Alabama State on Friday, Nov. 8 in the semifinal round at 5:30 p.m.

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers prevailed after defeating Alabama State, 1-0 Thursday evening at home, hosting the 2019 Southwestern Athletic Conference Soccer Tournament.

With the win, #2 Prairie View A&M (11-7) will host #3 Jackson State Friday afternoon in the semifinal round at 5:30 p.m. at the PVAMU Soccer Complex.  

Prairie View A&M took the 1-0 advantage after scoring off a corner kick assisted goal by Demoree-Sany Nugent to Lesa Griffin in the 37th minute of the contest.

The Lady Panthers controlled the pace of play, as the team recorded nine shots; including four shots on goal throughout the match.

Alabama State tallied two shots; including two shots on goal during the match. ASU’s Hrafnhil Hjaltalin collected three saves in the net, as PVAMU’s goalie Alexis Espino registered two.
