Prairie View A&M Wins First Soccer Tournament Title in Program History

Kalia Brown Named Tournament MVP

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Kalia Brown’s score in the 56th minute from teammates Gina Zaval Dejas and Alexis Mack secured Prairie View A&M its first ever Southwestern Athletic Conference Soccer Championship in program history on Sunday afternoon, 1-0 over Howard at the PVAMU Soccer Complex.

With the victory, the Lady Panthers improve to 13-7 on the season and receive an automatic bid into the NCAA tournament starting Nov. 15, while Howard ends its season 14-4 overall.

“It was a great final match for us and it was great for us to get that goal to help our team win the championship,” said PVAMU head coach Sonia Curvelo. “We worked extremely hard to put ourselves in this position. Our players made the plays today and that helped us win the game. I’d like to thank our players and staff for all of the hard work they put in this entire season.”

A hard-fought contest on both ends, Prairie View A&M controlled the pace of play, taking 13 shots with five shots on goal, while the Bison attempted eight shots and six shots on goal. PVAMU’s goalkeeper Quinn Josiah collected six saves, while counterpart HU’s goalie Alayah Hightower tallied four.
