Harris duo leads UAPB past LeMoyne-Owen
PINE BLUFF, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women’s basketball team improved to 3-5 on the season after pulling away during the second half of a 52-43 win over LeMoyne-Owen College Wednesday evening during non-conference action in H.O. Clemmons Arena.
Shawntayla Harris led the Lady Lions with 19 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two blocks. Kyeonia Harris added 13 points, four steals and three rebounds.
After the sides battled to a 26-26 tie in the first two quarters, K. Harris capped a back and forth third quarter with a three-pointer that gave UAPB a 37-34 lead with 44 ticks left in the frame. The lead held through the final moments of the period.
From that point, UAPB never trailed. The Lady Lions pushed their lead to eight to open the fourth, and though LeMoyne-Owen would get within three, the Harris tandem accounted for nearly every UAPB point during a decisive 10-3 scoring spurt that put the Lady Lions up 52-42 with 1:36 left. UAPB’s advantage held strong the rest of the way.
The Lady Lions harassed LeMoyne-Owen into a 26.0 percent clip in shooting (13-of-50), outrebounding their opponent 48-36. Additionally, UAPB enjoyed a 25-9 edge in points off the bench.
Averyale Joy led LeMoyne-Owen with 16 points.
