PVAMU victorious in home opener
PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas -
 The Prairie View A&M University men’s basketball program pushed aside Huston-Tillotson 81-65 Wednesday evening during the Panthers’ home opener
 
Gerard Andrus led the Panthers (2-11) with 22 points on 10-of-13 shooting, hauling in nine rebounds. Gary Blackston was an impact player in every facet for Prairie View, scoring 18 points and chipping in seven rebounds and five assists. Darius Williams added 15 points in the winning effort.

Up five at the break, Prairie View A&M pushed its advantage to double-digits. Though a free throw by Alex Doche brought Huston-Tillotson within eight of PVAMU with 8:27 left in the second half, the Panthers shut down the potential comeback in the ensuing moments. Prairie View used the three-ball as part of an 11-1 run to build an 18-point lead, and the Panthers led by as many as 20 down the stretch of the win.

Both sides shot well, with Prairie View hitting 52.4 percent of its shots (33-of-63) compared to a 51.2 percent clip from Huston-Tillotson (21-of-41). The Panthers dominated on the inside, scoring 36 points in the paint compared to Huston-Tillotson’s 14 points on the interior. Prairie View A&M also pestered Huston-Tillotson into 28 turnovers, turning them into 33 points.

Doche led Huston-Tillotson with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Keith Broome added 14 points.
