BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Texas Southern University forward Jeremy Combs has been named the Southwestern Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week following an exceptional effort against arch-rival Prairie View A&M this past weekend. The league announced the honor Tuesday afternoon.
Combs, a 6-7 transfer from Dallas, Texas posted 23 points, 20 rebounds, a pair of assists, one block and one steal during TSU’s setback versus Prairie View A&M. The 23 points represents a season-high for the graduate transfer. In the three games prior to this one, Combs had corralled a combined 18 rebounds.
Combs currently stands sixth in the conference in scoring (13.2 points per game) and is third in the league with 7.8 rebounds per night. He is the first player to post a 20/20 game in SWAC play since former Mississippi Valley State player Ta’Jay Henry accomplished the feat versus TSU on January 23, 2017.
Combs is the third different TSU player to have earned Player of the Week honors this season, joining Trayvon Reed and Jalyn Patterson.
