Late Saturday
Texas Southern 26, Texas Permian-Basin 16
HOUSTON, TX – Quarterback Glen Cuiellette had a rousing start in his debut as the Tigers new signal caller, helping build an early 23-2 lead for host Texas Southern before holding off a late rally attempt by the Falcons.
 
Cuiellette, who is a graduate student, threw a pair of touchdown passes in the opening quarter and added another in the third quarter.  He found graduate wide receiver Bobby Hartzog on a 39-yard strike first and followed it up with a 15-yard touchdown to redshirt sophomore Tren’Davian Dickson with 5:53 left in the first.  Redshirt sophomore Bryston Cummings made a three-touchdown day for Cuiellette, when he caught a two-yard pass to cap a seven-play, 50-yard drive with 2:58 remaining in the third. 
 
Cuiellette completed 19-of-33 passes for 235 yards, three touchdowns with two interceptions. 
 
Brad Woodard led the Tigers rushing attack with 16 carries for 74 yards while junior linebacker Julian Marcantel was a force on defense with seven tackles, forced a fumble and recovered a fumble.
 
Late Saturday
Morehouse College 34, Arkansas-Pine Bluff 30
PINE BLUFF, ARK. – Shannon Patrick debuted at quarterback with a strong showing in defeat for the Golden Lions as he completed 17-of-25 passes for 451 yards with three touchdowns. 
 
Morehouse’s Santo Dunn scored on a 31-yard with 11:28 remaining in the fourth quarter to give the Maroon Tigers a 33-24 lead. 
 
Patrick found Josh Wilkes on a 77-yard touchdown reception with 4:55 left, but that concluded the scoring. 
 
Prairie View A&M 40, North Carolina Central 24
ATLANTA, Ga. – Panthers quarterback Jalen Morton was named the Most Valuable Player of the MEAC/SWAC Challenge after completing 17-of-32 passes for 283 yards with three touchdowns in head coach Eric Dooley’s debut at the helm of Prairie View A&M. Morton added 70 rushing yards and a score on the ground as well. 
 
Prairie View A&M (1-1) racked up 634 total yards of offense and built a 23-0 lead before N.C. Central stormed back to cut the lead to 26-24. 
 
An 82-yard, seven play drive ended when Morton found Markcus Hardy for a 20-yard touchdown yards to give the Panthers a 33-24 lead with just under nine minutes to play.
 
Ju’Anthony Parker’s interception and 16-yard return to midfield set up Dawonya Tucker’s 50-yard touchdown run with just over six minutes remaining for the final margin.
 
The Southwestern Athletic Conference has claimed the trophy for the MEAC/SWAC Challenge from the past two seasons after Southern defeated the MEAC’s South Carolina State in the 2017 edition of the game.  The MEAC now leads the all-time series 9-4.
