Former SU Star Green to continue hoops career in Europe

BATON ROUGE, La. - Former Southern women's basketball standout Briana Green has inked a professional contract to continue her career in Dublin, Ireland for the Liffey Celtics in the Super League.

Green Inked her contract August 1, she will join her new squad September 2. Liffey Celtics were crowned women's Super League regular-season champions this past season with a (13-2) mark.

Green, a 5-foot-11 forward from Fort Lauderdale, Fla. was a perennial all-conference honoree for the Jaguars. An All-SWAC first-teamer and the 2018 SWAC Defensive Player of the Year and 2015 SWAC Freshmen of the Year, Green had a stellar career with the Jaguars surpassing the 1,500 career point mark this past season.

2018 was her most prolific season in a Southern uniform, as she recorded career highs in points scored (17.2 PPG), rebounds (5.73 RPG), steals (2.4 SPG), and assists (3 APG). Green main contributions came from the defensive end of the floor, leading Southern’s top-ranked defense as it allowed 58.4 points per game, the second-fewest amount of points surrendered per night in conference play. The Jaguars ranked first in the SWAC in defending the 3-point line, limiting opponents to just a 22.4 percent clip from long range.

Southern finished the 2017-18 season with the SWAC’s best scoring margin (+10.8) and best overall turnover margin (+5.74) en route to the 2018 SWAC regular season championship and a trip to the WNIT.

"I'm grateful to be able to represent my family and school in a positive way," said Green. "I intend to represent Southern [University] to the best of my ability, I appreciate all the love and support from Jaguar Nation."

Green's is the third Jaguar women's basketball to play professionally, Jaclyn Winfield was drafted in the fourth round, 59th overall by the Utah Starzz in 2002, and Hannah Kador signed with Platges Mataro (Spain) in 2016.
