Alabama State’s Ward notches double-double at Georgia Tech
ATLANTA – Shmya Ward posted a double-double with 10 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks, but it wasn’t enough to power Alabama State over Georgia Tech. The Lady Hornets fell to the Yellow Jackets 69-42 Wednesday evening at McCamish Pavilion.
Ayana Emmanuel added seven points for the Lady Hornets (1-6).
After Jayla Crawford knocked down a trey to halt a 7-0 run by Georgia Tech, the Yellow Jackets ultimately built a 17-9 lead after one thanks to foul line shooting. The Lady Hornets then fell behind by double-digits as Georgia Tech scored 11 unanswered points to begin the second period.
The Lady Hornets were unable to slow down Georgia Tech, who took advantage of 25 Alabama State turnovers and converted the giveaways into 30 points on its way to leading by as many as 34.
Alabama State shot 14-of-47 from the floor (29.8 percent), compared to Georgia Tech’s 27-of-77 clip from the field (35.1 percent). The Lady Hornets were outrebounded 53-38, conceding 26 offensive rebounds to the Yellow Jackets.
Elizabeth Balogun led Georgia Tech with 18 points, six boards and five assists. Chanin Scott added 14 points.
