McKnight scores 27 in loss at Texas Tech
LUBBOCK, Texas – Arkansas-Pine Bluff’s Martaevous McKnight scored 27 points, but the Golden Lions were unable to keep pace with Texas Tech during a 65-47 defeat Wednesday evening at United Supermarkets Arena.
McKnight, who leads the SWAC in scoring and ranked ninth nationally entering the week, also corralled seven rebounds and was 9-of-18 from the floor. However, no other UAPB player scored in double figures, with Terrence Baynard’s and Christian Robertson’s four points the next highest total on the team.
Texas Tech built a 10-3 lead early, but McKnight scored seven of UAPB’s next nine points to help bring the Golden Lions within one. However, Davide Moretti knocked down a pair of jumpers to spark a 12-0 Red Raider run that left UAPB facing a double-digit deficit midway through the first half.
From that point, UAPB was unable to get back within striking distance, shooting just 14-of-43 from the floor (32.6 percent) in the game.
Texas Tech connected on 41.9 percent of its shots (26-of-62) and outrebounded UAPB 41-30. UAPB was outscored 36-14 in the paint.
Jarrett Culver led Texas Tech with 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Matt Mooney added 11 points.
