Delta Devils fall to Hawai’i
HONOLULU – The Mississippi Valley State University men’s basketball team fell 76-51 to the Hawai’I Warriors Sunday evening at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Emmanuel Ejeh posted a double-double for the Delta Devils with 14 points, 12 rebounds, three assists and two steals. Kaleb Allison added 10 points and three rebounds.
Mississippi Valley battled the Warriors closely during the initial goings of the first half, though Hawai’I maintained a slim advantage throughout. After a Marcus Mitchell bucket in the paint brought Valley within two with 8:43 left in the half, Hawai’I opened up a double-digit lead as Brocke Stepteau and Zigmars Raimo helped key a 17-2 run.
Dante Scott knocked down a three to halt Hawai’I momentarily, but the Warriors took a 19-point lead into intermission and never looked back, scoring the second half’s first seven points and leading by as many as 28 over the final period.
MVSU shot 35 percent from the floor – 21-of-60 --, including a 1-of-12 display from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, Hawai’I connected on 53 percent (28-of-53) from the field, including an 8-of-20 line from three-point range.
Valley got solid production from its reserves, who accounted for 38 points compared to a 21-point effort from the Warriors’ bench. However, Hawai’I enjoyed a 38-24 advantage in regards to points in the paint.
