McKnight narrowly misses quadruple-double, UAPB blows out Champion Christian
PINE BLUFF, Ark. –
Behind a balanced scoring effort and a near quadruple-double by Martaveous McKnight, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men’s basketball team had no problems with Champion Christian College, winning 84-51 Monday evening.

McKnight led the Golden Lions with 18 points, 10 steals, 10 rebounds and eight assists. Charles Jackson added 17 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals. Shaun Doss scored 12 points for UAPB as well.

The Golden Lions were in control from the start, opening the game on a 20-7 run over the first seven minutes of the game. Champion Christian managed to close to within four in the late stages of the first half, but back-to-back buckets by Christian Robertson helped key a 9-1 run for UAPB, resulting in a 40-28 lead at intermission.

The Golden Lions opened the second half with eight unanswered points, and cruised from there, leading by as many as 38.

UAPB shot 45.2 percent from the field (33-of-73), outrebounding Champion Christian 44-33. UAPB harassed Champion Christian into 26 turnovers, scoring 33 points from them. McKnight had more steals on his own than CCC did as a team (5).

Mikalen Hawkins and Tarrance Davis scored 11 points each for CCC.
