Prairie View A&M 81, Santa Clara 64
SANTA CLARA, CA – Gary Blackston poured in a game-high 30 points on 13-of-21 shooting with eight rebounds and four steals and newcomers Gerard Andrus and Taishaun Johnson scored 14 apiece as the Panthers took a 42-24 lead into halftime and held up in the second half to earn the road victory in their season opener.
 
Johnson also had six rebounds and four assists while Darius Williams chipped in with 10 points. 
 
Prairie View A&M (1-0) shot 53 percent from the floor and outscored the Broncos 36-22 in the paint.  The Panthers led nearly wire-to-wire and won the turnover battle 20-9. 
 
Alcorn State 79, Blue Mountain 55
LORMAN, Miss. – Maurice Howard picked up all 24 of his points on 3-point shots as he made 7-of-18 from long range with four rebounds and three assists and Jonathan Floyd added 15 points, four steals and three assists as the host Braves led by as many as 30 points at one point to pick up their first win of the season.
 
Alcorn State (1-1) shot 13-of-33 from the beyond the arc as a team as the Braves took a 10-point advantage into halftime.  Blue Mountain took an initial 6-0 lead, but never had the lead again as the Braves went on a 15-2 run to capture a 15-8 lead with 13:35 remaining in the first half. 
 
Deshaw Andrews chipped in with nine points and nine rebounds as well for Alcorn State. 
 
Grambling State 105, Jarvis Christian 68
GRAMBLING, La. – Dallas Polk-Hilliard notched 17 points on 8-of-13 shooting and had 10 rebounds in his debut and fellow newcomer Lasani Johnson added 16 points and five rebounds off the bench as the Tigers won their season opener from the Hobdy Assembly Center.
 
Ivy Smith Jr. (11 points, six rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks) and Anthony Gaston (11 points) were among 12 players who scored on the night for Grambling State (1-0).
 
Texas Tech 84, Mississippi Valley State 52
LUBBOCK, TX – Despite 16 points from Jordan Evans and 15 from Michael Green, the Delta Devils fell behind by 23 at halftime and could not recover in a loss at Texas Tech. 
 
Mississippi Valley State (0-2) shot just 33 percent from the floor as the Red Raiders (2-0) made half of their shots.
 
Davide Moretti shot 6-of-9 from the field and scored 17 to led Texas Tech.
