BROOKINGS, SD – Coming off a season in which he was named the SWAC’s Freshman of the Year, guard Jacoby Ross poured in a game-high 25 points on 9-of-20 shooting including 7-of-15 from 3-point range to lead the Hornets on the road.
After trailing 54-38 at the break, Alabama State (0-2) tightened up their defense in the second half as it held the Jackrabbits to just 24 points on 28 percent field goal shooting.
Hornets post player Branden Johnson hit all five of his shots from the floor and scored 10 to go along with a pair of blocks.
Mike Daum led South Dakota State (2-0) with 23 points, 13 rebounds, four assists while Skyler Flatten added 17 points for South Dakota State.
