WACO, TX – Jaylyn Patterson scored a team-high 23 points on 5-of-11 shooting from 3-point range and added six assists, Trayvon Reed registered a double-double with 15 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks as the Tigers stunned the host Bears at the Ferrell Center.  
 
Devocio Butler (13 points, six rebounds ) and Jeremy Combs (11 points, eight rebounds) also reached double figures in scoring as Texas Southern shot a blistering 63 percent from the floor in the second half to outpace Baylor 45-29 after the break.

  • Alcorn State trailed by just three at halftime, but were outscored 33-19 in the second half on the road at Tulsa. 
  • Junior transfer Deshaw Andrews scored a team-high 20 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field and 7-of-9 from the free throw line with five rebounds and four steals in his Braves debut.
  • Jackson State led by four at the break, but were outscored by 13 points after halftime against Louisiana-Monroe.
  • The Tigers’ Jayveous McKinnis shot 8-of-11 from the floor and scored a team-high 16 points to go along with six rebounds, three blocks and a steal. 
  • Jackson State’s Chris Howell had 15 points and eight rebounds. 
  • Alabama A&M trailed by just three on the road at South Florida, but was outscored 46-32 in the second half.
  • Alabama A&M’s Arthur Johnson led the Bulldogs with 20 points, four rebounds and four steals.  Andre Kennedy added 15 points.
  • Alabama State played at Iowa State’s Hilton Coliseum in front of 13,696 fans in attendance in Ames, Iowa.
  • Alabama State’s Reginald Gee came off the bench and scored 15 points on 5-of-10 field goal shooting in 24 minutes of action. 
  • “The guys played hard,” Alabama State head coach Lewis Jackson said. “Iowa State is a good team, and they will have a good year. We schedule games like this at the beginning of the year to help us grow and get better. Tonight, we shot ourselves in the foot a little bit on shot selection and turnovers.  We learned a lot tonight, and you always say if you don’t learn something in a loss then it was in vain. We will work on the things we need to work on from tonight, and get ready for our next game against South Dakota State.”
  • Mississippi Valley State’s Dante Scott registered a double-double at Nebraska with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
  • After trailing by 18 at halftime, Southern (0-1) nearly traded baskets on the road at Alabama as the Jaguars were narrowly outscored 37-35 in the second half. 
  • Southern forward Eddie Reese led the Jaguars with 16 points and Aaron Ray added 10 points.
  • UAPB’s Martaveous McKnight poured in a game-high 29 points with eight rebounds and two steals at San Diego State.
