Central Arkansas 57, Alcorn State 46
Box Score
LORMAN, Miss. – Despite a double-double by Toddriana Isler, a forgettable third quarter cost Alcorn State during a 57-46 setback against Central Arkansas Wednesday night at Davey L. Whitney Complex.
Isler scored 14 points along with 12 boards. Charisma Walker added 10 points and eight rebounds.
Playing their first game in eight days, Alcorn (0-5) trailed 19-16 at the break, but the Sugar Bears came out of intermission with a 7-0 run that pushed their advantage to double-digits. Alcorn struggled offensively in the frame and faced a 13-point deficit going into the fourth.
Though the Lady Braves nearly matched their total offensive output to that point (25) with a 21-point quarter, they were unable to make a dent in Central Arkansas’ lead, as the Sugar Bears nearly matched Alcorn point-for-point to maintain a lead the rest of the way.
Kamry Orr paced UCA with 21 points. Alcorn outshot Central Arkansas 37.3 (19-of-51) percent to 34.5 (19-of-55) percent. UCA outrebounded the Braves 47-40.
UAB 82, Alabama A&M 47
Box Score
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – A sluggish first quarter hampered Alabama A&M during an 82-47 loss to Alabama-Birmingham at Bartow Arena Wednesday evening.
UAB opened the game with 12 unanswered points, using the three-ball to push its lead to as many as 16. Though Alabama A&M found its footing somewhat in the next frame, the early hole was ultimately too large to climb out of and was further exacerbated by a 10-2 Blazer run that closed the third quarter with UAB ahead 64-33.
Alabama A&M was unable to threaten in the fourth. Jameica Cobb, Elexis Evans and Lazurea Sanders each scored eight points for the Lady Bulldogs, who connected on just 29.9 percent (20-of-67) of their tries in the game.
UAB’s Imani Johnson scored 18 points on a near-perfect shooting night, going 5-of-6 from the floor and 8-of-8 from the foul line. Deanna Kuzmanic added 12 points, and Katelynn Thomas and Margaret Whitley each chipped in 10 points.
The Blazers held a decisive advantage at the charity stripe, shooting 34-of-42 while AAMU was just 6-of-14.
