TSU drops heartbreaker to Nicholls State
EL PASO, Texas –
A furious comeback fell short for Texas Southern during a 58-57 loss to Nicholls State Saturday afternoon.

Marquia Turner and Niya Mitchell led Texas Southern with 14 points.

Down 32-22 at the break, Texas Southern looked to scrap together a rally, managing to cut the deficit to five entering the fourth. A Turner layup brought Texas Southern within one basket, but the Colonels pushed their lead to 11 with 4:34 left. From there, Mitchell asserted herself with eight points in the final minutes, including a basket with six ticks left that put Texas Southern within one. After a timeout, Mitchell picked the pocket of Nicholls’ Cassidy Barrios and had a chance at a layup as time ticked away, but Mitchell was unable to convert as time expired.

Barrios led Nicholls State with 11 points and 14 rebounds.
