Alabama State 31, Mississippi Valley State 24 (OT)
MONTGOMERY, ALA. – KHA’Darr Davis found Jeremiah Hixon for a six-yard touchdown for the decisive score in overtime at ASU Stadium in the 95
th annual Turkey Day Classic.
Mississippi Valley State (1-10, 1-6 SWAC) had built a 24-14 advantage through three quarters of play on the strength of a pair of touchdown runs from Isaiah Robinson (three-yard score in the first quarter followed by a two-yard run score in the second quarter) as well a 10-yard touchdown pass from Booker Chambers to Stetson Moore with 6:06 left in the third. A 26-yard field goal by Ruben Piraquive made 24-14 with 1:15 left in the third.
Alabama State (4-7, 3-4 SWAC) responded quickly at the start of the fourth quarter by driving 49 yards in just 30 seconds highlighted by a 27-yard touchdown reception by Joe Williams from KHA’Darr Davis. Kicker Hunter Hanson booted a 33-yard field goal with 1:56 left in the fourth to tie it at 24, sending the game into overtime.
Davis completed 21-of-39 passes for 237 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions and was not sacked. Michael Jefferson caught two balls for 30 yards and two touchdowns. On defense, Dennis Roberts led with nine tackles, three tackles for a loss, one sack and one interception.
Dejerric Bryant was 8-of-19 for just 67 passing yards with three interceptions, but also rushed 27 times for 114 yards to lead the Delta Devils. Chambers had one passing touchdown, 73 rushing yards on seven carries and added 22 receiving yards on three receptions.
