GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Panthers fought to a tied game at 31 all by halftime and were outscored by 12 in the second half.  After the team traded baskets back and forth, the Pirates went on a key 10-0 run on five consecutive points in the paint on lay ins to open a 45-35 advantage with 14:04 remaining. 
 
The Panthers responded with an 11-3 run of their own off a Gary Blackston layup, a Darius Williams jumper, a Blackston jumper, a Devonte Patterson 3-point play with a layup and free throw and another Patterson lay up cut the lead to 48-46 with 11:04 left. 
 
A Chancellor Ellis jumper made it a 53-50 lead for East Carolina, but that’s as close as Prairie View A&M would get the rest of the way.  Jayden Gardner scored 28 and had 17 rebounds to pace ECU (4-2).
 
Devonte Patterson led PV (1-5) with 16 points, five rebounds, two steals and one block. 
 
Gary Blackston, who entered tonight’s game as the conference’s second leading scorer at 17.8 points per contest, was held to 11 points on 4-of-16 shooting from the floor, but filled the stat sheet with seven rebounds, four steals and three assists. 
 
#20 Iowa 105, Alabama State 78
IOWA CITY, IA – The Hawkeyes (5-0) shot 59 from the floor as a team, ran out to a 68-point first half and had four players reach double digits in scoring with Luka Garza (22 points), Joe Wieskamp (20 points), Tyler Cook (16 points) and Isaiah Moss (15 points). 
 
Reginald Gee had 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field to lead the Hornets (2-3).  Fausto Picardo fouled out, but not before he recorded a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.  Jacoby Ross had 14 points and five assists.
