TSU’s Turner scores 21, but Lady Tigers unable to get past Rice
HOUSTON –
Marquia Turner put up 21 points for Texas Southern, but the Lady Tigers were unable to get the win at Rice, falling 76-71 Monday evening at Tudor Fieldhouse.

Turner shot 5-of-8 from three-point land and was one of three Texas Southern (1-2) players in double figures. Olivia Cunningham scored 15 points and dished eight assists, and Bre’nae Andrews added 16 points on a perfect 5-for-5 line from downtown.

Andrews buried a three-pointer with 7:49 left in the game to put Texas Southern up 63-49. However, the Owls used the long ball to put together a furious 21-6 run over the next six minutes of play, and Shani Rainey knocked down the go-ahead trey with 1:50 left. Turner would convert a basket to bring TSU within one, but Rice’s Erica Ogwumike iced the game from the charity stripe in the closing seconds.

Ogwumike led Rice with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Jasmine Smith and Lauren Grisby each scored 16.
