UNC Greensboro 74, Prairie View A&M 66
GREENSBORO, NC – The Panthers led by as many as 12 with 15:10 remaining in the second half, but the Spartans came all the way to take the lead on three free throws by Hunter Kaleb with 5:45 left in the game.
UNC Greensboro outscored Prairie View A&M 14-6 down the stretch.
Gary Blackston led the Panthers (1-3) with 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting, Darius Williams scored 15 and Devonte Patterson had 11 points, six rebounds, and four steals.
Francis Alonso scored a team-high 18 for the Spartans (3-1).
UMass 92, Arkansas-Pine Bluff 60
AMHERST, Mass. – Martaveous McKnight had 27 points and four assists and Trevor Banks added 13 points to lead the Golden Lions (0-4).
The Minutemen (3-2) shot 54 percent from the field and had four players reach double digits in scoring as Luwane Pipkins nearly recorded a triple double with five points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds.
Sam Houston State 75, Jackson State 60
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – R.J. Smith scored all 12 of his points in the second half and grabbed nine rebounds for Sam Houston State in the Cayman Islands Classic Mainland.
Chris Howell scored 13 points and had 12 rebounds while Venji Wallis had 12 points to lead the Tigers (0-4).
Smith scored six of his points during a key 16-2 run for the Bearkats (3-3) that gave them a 64-45 lead with seven minutes to play.
Sunday
Evansville 85, Texas Southern 63
EVANSVILLE, IN – Jalyn Patterson shot 7-of-19 from the field including 4-of-10 from 3-point range and was 8-of-8 from the free throw line to score a game-high 26 points with seven rebounds, but the Tigers shot just 32 percent from the floor as a team.
Trayvon Reed had nine points, 10 rebounds and one block for the Tigers (1-4).
Texas Southern trailed 35-26 at halftime, and were only able to get the deficit down to five thereafter on a lay in by Reed with 19:17 left.
Shea Feehan had 20 points, three steals and one block for the Purple Aces (2-2).
Kent State 79, Alcorn State 48
KENT, OH – Jael Scott scored 11 and DeShaw Andrews added 10 points, but the Braves (1-3) trailed by 17 by halftime and only got as close as 15 the rest of the way.
Alcorn State committed 22 turnovers and shot 38 percent from the floor on the day.
Antonio Williams and C.J. Williamson had 17 points apiece for the Golden Flashes (2-1).
