LAWRENCE, Kan. - a pair of treys from Kansas guard Jessica Washington sparked a lengthy scoring run as Kansas rode a second-period surge to top Alabama A&M 65-54 Sunday afternoon in a non-conference women's college basketball game.
The second period was the difference.
Lauren McKee made a bucket in the final seconds of the first period to tie the score at 12 apiece, but Kansas (3-0) used a 14-2 run in the second period to build a 16-point halftime lead.
Alabama A&M (1-4) rallied back in the second half. Nigeria Jones made a jumper midway into the fourth period to pull the Bulldogs within nine.
Jones led Alabama A&M with 14 points, while McKee scored eight. Carnethia Brown added seven points.
Christalah Lyons led Kansas with 16 points, while Washington finished with 12.
