George Mason 69, Southern 65
FAIRFAX, VA – The Jaguars second half comeback attempt came up a little short on the road at EagleBank Arena.
After trailing 37-25 at halftime, Southern (0-4) cut the lead down to just five on three occasions. Sydney Umude’s layup with 5:55 left made it a 57-52 lead.
After the Patriots (1-3) responded with a 6-0 spurt, a Umude jumper and a layup by Eddie Reese reduced it back to a seven-point advantage. After trading baskets, Osa Wilson made a pair of free throws cut it back to five.
George Mason’s Goanar split a pair of free throws and Southern’s Jayden Sadler made two from the line to make it a four-point contest. The Patriots’ Javon Green essentially iced with two free throws of his own before Reese scored on a lay in with one second left.
Reese closed with 21 points on 9-of-16 shooting and Richard Lee added 11 points.
Robert Morris 68, Mississippi Valley State 59
MOON TOWNSHIP, PA – The Delta Devils trailed by 15 with 11:03 to play, but went on a 13-5 run to cut the deficit down to just seven with 7:14 remaining.
Two jumpers and two free throws by Michael Green, another jumper from Dante Scott, two free throws from Tereke Eckwood, and three free throws from Aleska Koracin gave Mississippi Valley State (0-5) a look, but the Colonials (2-2) had enough down the stretch.
A layup from the Delta Devils’ Lorenzo Hunt cut it to 64-58 with 3:08 left. That was as close as it would get as Josh Williams answered with a 3-pointer and an additional free throw to push it back to a 10-point lead.
Scott finished with 16 points, seven rebounds and two steals while Green scored 13.
Southern Illinois 78, Arkansas-Pine Bluff 48
CARBONDALE, ILL. – The Golden Lions (0-3) had a cold shooting day as the team shot a combined 31 percent from the field on the road at SIU Arena.
Martaveous McKnight shot just 4-of-17 on the day with 11 points while Marquell Carter chipped in with 10 points and seven rebounds.
Marcus Bartley had 20 points to lead all scorers for the Salukis (1-2).
Lamar 74, Prairie View A&M 67
BEAUMONT, Texas - The Prairie View A&M men’s basketball team got to within one point of the lead late before falling at Lamar 74-67 Saturday.
Devonte Patterson led three Panthers in double figures with a game-high 20 points, along with six rebounds. Gary Blackston scored 14 points and had five rebounds, and Gerard Andrus 12 with seven boards for PVAMU.
Trailing by 11 in the second half, the Panthers cut the lead three on four different occasions before making it a one-point game. Back-to-back layups by Andrus cut the PVAMU deficit to 63-62 with just over two minutes remaining.
After four straight points by Lamar, a three-pointer by Taishaun Johnson cut the deficit to 67-65 with 1:04 remaining but Prairie View A&M could get no closer.

BYU 91, Alabama A&M 60
PROVO, UT – Despite a strong bench performance of 18 points, six rebounds and five assists from Evan Wiley, the Bulldogs (0-4) could not overcome a sluggish first half in which it shot a combined 25 percent from the field.
Alabama A&M raised their shooting percentage to over 45 percent in the second half and was good on 5-of-9 from 3-point range, but the Cougars (4-1) responded by making 50 percent of their shots.
Yoeli Childs had 18 points, 12 rebounds and four assists while TJ Haws scored a game-high 19 points on 9-of-12 shooting from the field.
