Up and down play stall out Devilettes at SMU
DALLAS – Mississippi Valley State fell to Southern Methodist University 62-47 Monday evening at the Moody Coliseum.
Kristy Parker led MVSU with 11 points and eight assists, and Makayla Bonner added 10 points and four blocks. LaKendra Bassett scored five points, dishing out eight assists and grabbing six rebounds.
Down 19-8 after one, the Devilettes nearly matched SMU on the scoreboard from that point but couldn’t do much in terms of closing the gap as the game progressed.
Mississippi Valley State held the Mustangs to 33.3 percent shooting from the floor, but were unable to capitalize as they shot 29.2 percent from the floor (19-65). Additionally, SMU enjoyed a plus-11 advantage from the charity stripe, going 14-of-24 from the line, making three more free throws than Mississippi Valley attended over the course of the game.
