Women's OTF Championship: Day Two Recap

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Day two of the 2017 Southwestern Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships continued at Alabama A&M University, with champions crowned in the women's heptathlon, shot put, long jump, javelin throw and 3000-meter steeplechase.

DAY TWO HIGHLIGHTS:
Prairie View took the top two slots in the women's heptathlon for the second-straight year, but this time, 2016 runner-up Camirey Jackson (4616 points) took the gold, and 2016 champion Jada Curbeam (4096 points) earned the silver. Alcorn State's Justice Edwards finished third with 4067 points.
Jackson State's Latoya Gilding cleared 14.96 meters to win the women's shot put, edging out silver medalist Kenya Wheeler (14.33m) of Grambling State. Claiming the bronze medal was Shamiya Blake of Texas Southern, who made a throw of 14.19 meters.
Alabama A&M Charrie Dennard won the women's long jump with a leap of 6.14 meters. Arkansas-Pine Bluff's Briana Burke was second at 6.09m, and Southern's Vashti Hannah won bronze with a jump of 6.00 meters.
Halima Chepkwony of Grambling won the 3000-meter steeplechase, clocking in at 11:39.21. Sade Lavallias of Alabama State earned the silver (12:08.57), and in third was Alcorn State's Dynasty Williams (12:27.89).
Texas Southern dominated the women's javelin event, taking the top four spots. Winning the gold was Miriam Pierre (39.54m). In second was Ellena Torres (34.88m), and Breanca Woods took home third with a toss of 32.83m.
