Southern 6, Alabama A&M 2

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Southern defeated Alabama A&M 6-2 in the first game on day two of the 2017 SWAC baseball tournament.
Southern got out to an early lead in the top of the second. Robinson Mateo would hit an RBI double to give the Jaguars an early 1-0 lead.
The Bulldogs would answer in the bottom of the inning. Brandon Whitaker would reach base on a fielder's choice that would drive in a run, to tie the game at 1-1.
Alabama A&M would score one run in the third, when Zeth Malcom would hit a sacrifice fly that would allow a run to score and give the Bulldogs the 2-1 lead.
Southern would tie the game in the fourth. Troy Lewis would hit an RBI double to tie the game at 2-2 going into the fifth.
Southern would make the score 4-2 by getting two runs in the fifth. John Pope would hit a double to right field to drive in the fourth run for the Jaguars.
The score would remain 4-2 until the ninth, when SUBR would get two insurance runs in that frame to make the score 6-2.
The Jaguars would be able to hang on to take the win and eliminate the Bulldogs from the tournament.
Pope would go two-for-five with three RBIs to pace the Jaguars in the win.
Whitaker went one-for-three with onr RBI in the loss for Alabama A&M.
Prairie View A&M 8, Grambling State 6

NEW ORLEANS, La. – In a back-and-forth battle, Prairie View A&M defeated Grambling State 8-6 in game six of the SWAC baseball tournament.
The Panthers jumped out to a 3-0 lead, after scoring one run in the first, and two runs in the second for the three-run lead. Carson Lee would hit an RBI single to center field to drive in the opening run of the contest. Tyler Gordon would drive in a run on a ground out for the Panthers' third run.
Grambling State would comeback over the next four innings. The Tigers would score one run in the third, and again in the fourth, and three runs in the sixth to take a 5-3 lead. Daniel Barnett would hit a three RBI double to give the Tigers the lead.
Prairie View A&M would score five more runs in the bottom half of the sixth to re-take the lead, 8-5. Gordon would hit an RBI single in the inning to contribute one of the Panthers' five runs.
Grambling State would score one run in the top of the sixth, to cut into the Panthers' lead. Daniel Barnett would score on a ground out to make the score 8-6 going into the bottom of the eighth.
The Panthers would be able to hang on for the victory. Grambling State has been eliminated with the loss.
Daniel Barnett would go two-for-five with three RBIs and one run scored in the loss.
Carson Lee would contribute two RBIs on two-for-two batting to pace the Panthers in the win.
Texas Southern 8, Jackson State 6 (10 innings)

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Texas Southern defeated Jackson State 8-6 in game seven of the SWAC baseball tournament. Christian Sanchez hit a walk-off home run in the tenth inning to give Texas Southern the win.
Jackson State would take the early lead. Jesus Santana would hit a sacrifice fly in the first inning, to give JSU the 1-0 lead.
Texas Southern would start to take control in the second. Christian Sanchez hit a three-run homer to give TSU the 3-1 advantage after two.
In the fourth, Charles Guillory hit a two-run home run to extend TSU's lead. Texas Southern would add another run in the fifth. Ryan Jackson would ground out to second, which allowed a run to score, making the score 6-1 in favor of TSU after five innings.
The game would remain 6-1 in favor of Texas Southern until the seventh. Jackson State would start to rally in that frame.
JSU would score two runs in the seventh. Bryce Brown would hit a two RBI single that would allow both of the runs to score, and make the score 6-3.
JSU would continue the rally in the ninth. Brown would hit a solo home run to pull Jackson State within one. JSU would tie the game on a throwing error by Texas Southern to send the game to extra innings.
In the tenth, Christian Sanchez hit a two run walk off home run to give Texas Southern the 8-6 win.
Sanchez would rack up five RBIs, while going three-for-five from the plate and scoring three runs. He had two homers on the day for Texas Southern.
Bryce Brown would go four-for-five with three RBIs and one run scored to pace Jackson State in the loss.
Alabama State 6, Alcorn State 1

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Two runs in the sixth, and three in the ninth was the difference in Alabama State's 6-1 win over Alcorn State in the final game of game two of the SWAC baseball tournament.
The Hornets would take the lead in the third inning, when Eriq White hit a homer to make the score 1-0. Alcorn State would answer in the bottom of the inning, when Patrick McMahon doubled to tie the game at 1-1.
Alabama State would score two runs in the sixth. White would drive in one run on a single to make the score 2-1. Oscar Prioleau would also hit an RBI single to give the Hornets a two-run lead.
The score would remain 2-1 until the ninth inning. Alabama State would hit back-to-back home runs, the first from Cage Cox and the second from Gustavos Rios. The Hornets would ultimately win the contest 6-1.
White would go three-for-four from the plate with two RBIs and the home run to pace the Hornets in the victory.
McMahon would go one-for-three with one RBI for the Braves despite the loss.
