Texas Southern 7, Alabama A&M 4

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Texas Southern defeated Alabama A&M, 7-4 in the first game of the SWAC baseball tournament.
The contest turned out to be a pitcher's duel early on. The game was scoreless until the fifth. The Tigers scored six runs in that frame, to take a 6-0 lead.
Blake Hicks double to drive in the Tiger's first two runs of the game. Kamren Dukes followed two batters later with an RBI single to make the score 3-0.
Texas Southern would add another run in the seventh, to make the score 7-0. TXSO would get its run by way of a wild pitch, which allowed it to extend its lead.
The Bulldogs would attempt to rally in the ninth. Dalton Mitchell would get the rally attempt started by doubling to drive in the Bulldog's first run of the game. Pierre Brewton would also add an RBI single to make the score 7-2. The Tigers would be able to hang on to take the victory for its first win of the tournament.
Brandon Marsonek would go 7.0 innings pitched and strikeout 10 despite the loss for the Bulldogs.
Anthony Martinez would throw a complete game allowing just five hits, and four runs (2 earned) in the win for the Tigers.
Alabama State 13, Prairie View A&M 5

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Alabama State, behind Tyler Howe's 14 strikeouts, defeated Prairie View A&M 13-5 in game two of the 2017 SWAC Baseball Tournament.
Prairie View A&M took the early lead, with two runs in the first, to lead 2-0. The Hornets would take the lead in the third. Carlos Ocasio would fly out to centerfield, for a sacrifice fly to drive in the final run of the inning, to make the score 4-2.
Alabama State added three more runs in the fifth. Ocasio would single up the middle in that frame, to add a run, and Cage Cox would walk with the bases loaded, to contribute another run in the inning.
Prairie View A&M would score two runs in its half of the sixth, to close the gap, only to have Alabama State answer in the bottom half, with three runs of its own, to make the score 10-4.
The Hornets would add three insurance markers in the seventh, making the score 13-5. The Hornets would be able hold on in the final two innings, to take the victory.
Howe would throw eight innings, gave up five runs (all earned) and totaled 14 strikeouts in the win for Alabama State.
For the Panthers, Steven Williams went three-for-five from the plate, with one run scored in the loss in game two.
Jackson State 4, Southern 2

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Jackson State defeated Southern, 4-2 in game three of the Southwestern Athletic Conference baseball tournament on Wednesday.
Southern would take the early lead. The Jaguars would get one run in the second, and another in the third to make the score 2-0 early. Dondrayas Harris would hit a solo home run in the second, and Phillip Williams hit an RBI double to give the Jaguars a two run advantage.
Jackson State would get all if its runs in the fifth. CJ Newsome would reach base on a fielder's choice to the shortstop, which drove in a run. The Lamar Briggs would reach on a fielder's choice, which allowed the fourth and final run of the inning to score.
Nether team would score a run for the remainder of the contest, as Jackson State would be able to hang on for the win.
Jonathan Aponte would go 8.0 innings for JSU, allowing just four hits, two earned runs, and totaling eight strikeouts in the victory.
Harris would go one-for-four with one RBI to pace the Jaguars in the loss.
Alcorn State 7, Grambling State 6 (11 Innings)

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Alcorn State defeated Grambling State, 7-6 in 11 innings, in the fourth game of the Southwestern Athletic Conference baseball tournament on Wednesday.
The Braves jumped out to an early lead, scoring three runs in the first inning. Jason Sanez was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to put Alcorn State on the board. .
Later, Walter Vives hit an RBI single to left field to make the score 2-0. The Braves would add one more run to take a 3-0 advantage.
Grambling State would answer in the bottom of the first. Trey Bell would hit a sacrifice fly, to make the score 3-1.
The game would remain 3-1 until the eighth. Patrick McMahon doubled to right center, and would allow Justin Barna to score on a fielding error to extend the Braves' lead to 4-1. McMahon would later score, making the score 5-1.
Grambling State would have a furious rally in the eight. The Tigers would get four runs, to tie the game going into the ninth. Marshawn Taylor would hit an RBI single to contribute a run during the four run rally.
Alcorn State would answer in the ninth. Dervincent Hamilton hit a solo homer to make the score 6-5 and gives the Braves a one-run advantage going into the bottom of the ninth inning.
Grambling State would tie the game in the bottom half of the ninth at 6-6 to force extra innings.
In extra innings. Kirt Cormier would hit an RBI double to give the Braves the lead, and the win in extra innings.
Cormier would go two-for-six from the plate, with one run scored and one RBI in the win.
Taylor would go two-for-five with two runs scored and one RBI in the loss.
