Houston, TX – SWAC Rookie of the Year Demontrae Jefferson poured in a game-high 28 points on 8-of-14 shooting including 10-of-12 from the free throw line and SWAC Defensive Player of the Year Marvin Jones notched a double-double with 20 points, 10 rebounds, two blocks and a steal as the Tigers successfully defended their home court at the H&PE Arena.
Texas Southern (21-11) earned a big edge at the free throw by making 31-of-38 as a team for the game while Alabama State was just 12-of-18 from the charity stripe.
The Tigers also shot 46 percent from the floor while ASU shot just 36 percent for the game.
The Hornets (8-23) had four players reach double digits in scoring led by senior Torloft Thomas, who finished with 17 points and six assists.
