Championship Preview: Alabama State vs. Texas Southern

Alabama State and Texas Southern, the top two seeds, will face off in the championship match of the 2017 Southwestern Athletic Conference Women’s Bowling Championship tomorrow at 1 p.m. CT.
Texas Southern defeated Jackson State 4-2, and Alabama State 4-1 to advance to the final and went 2-0 in the winner’s bracket.
The Tigers will be led by Bowler of the Year Denishiya Waller, who was the only bowler in the SWAC to average above 200 this season (206.9), and averaged 207.00 in the five games in the qualifying round on Friday.
Texas Southern defeated Jackson State 4-2, and Alabama State 4-1 to advance to the final and went 2-0 in the winner’s bracket.
The Hornets will be led by Haley Young, who bowled an average of 178.9 during the regular season, and had the highest average of any player during the qualifying round with 211.00.
Texas Southern finished the regular season in third place with an 18-6 record and knocked down 182.3 pins per game.
Alabama State went 12-12 during the regular season, and knocked down 171.8 pins per contest.
The Tigers have won the SWAC bowling championship four times, with the last coming in 2006. The Hornets will be seeking the first championship in program history.
