Women's Bowling Championship Recap: Day 1

ARLINGTON, Texas – The qualifying round of the SWAC Bowling Championship concluded on Friday with Alabama State earning the #1 seed heading into tomorrow’s double-elimination bracket competition, with a 4,715 total pinfall.

The Hornets were the most consistent team in the qualifying round, with all of its cumulative team scores being above 900 (948, 962, 912, 987, 906). 

Texas Southern earned the #2 seed, knocking down 4,675 total pins.  Jackson State enters tomorrow as the number three seed, with a 4,596 total pin count.

Regular season champion Prairie View A&M will enter the double-elimination competition as the #4 seed.  The Panthers knocked down 4,502 total pins.  Southern will be the #5 seed with a 4,237 total pinfall, while Grambling State will enter play tomorrow as the #6 seed (3,992).

Sophomore Haley Young of Alabama State was the best individual bowler on the day.  Young had an average of 211.00 per contest.  Young bowled scores of 256, 190, 216, 217 and 176 on the day.

Bowler of the Year Denisyha Waller finished second among individual bowlers, with an average of 207.00 pins per game. 

Tomorrow’s double-elimination competition will begin at 9:30 a.m. CT.
