D’Iberville, Miss. – The three-team race to be crowned the SWAC’s Women’s Bowling Regular Season champion will have to wait another day as it remains too close to call heading into Sunday’s finale at Cypress Lanes.
Entering the day, Texas Southern, Prairie View A&M and Jackson State were all locked with 13-3 records.
Saturday offered a little separation with Texas Southern budging forward in the standings with a 4-1 record Saturday including a pair of wins against its closest competition in defeating Jackson State in the first game of the day 1,025 to 827 and followed it up by besting Prairie View A&M 954-882.
The Tigers (17-4) only stumble came against Alabama State (9-12), who enjoyed a 4-1 day themselves to climb into fourth place in the standings.
But TSU bounced back to top Grambling State and ASU in a rematch.
Individually, TSU’s Denisyha Waller continued her reign as the conference’s top bowler with a 207.3. average, more than 12 pins on average better than the next closest bowler.
Prairie View A&M (16-4) remains very much in the fold to eye a championship as well as the Panthers went 3-1 on the day and still hold the best team average (187.0)
Jackson State (15-5) slide to third place after a 2-2 record Saturday, but hold the second best team average at 182.9.
Sunday’s finale will begin at 9 a.m. CT.
