Lady Hornets down Lady Braves 2-1 in Quarterfinals

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Defending champion and No. 1 seed Alabama State defeated the No. 8 seed Alcorn State 2-1 in the opening match of the 2017 Southwestern Athletic Conference Soccer Tournament on Thursday.
The Lady Braves opened the scoring in the 20th minute when Yaira Guardado scored to give Alcorn State the 1-0 lead.
Alabama State tied the contest in the 41st minute. Shyann Cordova scored on a penalty kic, to make the score 1-1 just before intermission.
The Lady Hornets took the lead just two minutes into the second half. Inma Martinez scored with assists by Teaggan Ilela and Lexi Krieger.
Alabama State was able to hold on to secure the victory and advance to the semifinals of the SWAC Soccer Tournament where the Lady Hornets will face Texas Southern.
