MEN’S DAY TWO HIGHLIGHTS
Alabama A&M’s Maurice Jones won the Decathlon with a score of 5966. O’Shane Shaw of Alabama State was second with 5402 points, and finishing third with a total of 5321 points was Southern’s Khalil Upshaw.
Southern’s Reginald Redding won his second event in as many days, claiming the Shot Put event with a heave of 15.50m. William Gordon of Alcorn State (15.36m) was second, and Roshaine Byfield (Alabama State) claimed third place with a distance of 15.06m.
Drayton Rolle of Texas Southern won the long jump on the strength of a 7.51m leap in the event. Finishing second was Southern’s Akil Bennett with a jump of 7.20m, and in third was Texas Southern’s Tevin Kimble (7.12m).
Mississippi Valley State’s Romello Nalepa (9:45.95) won the men’s 3000m Steeplechase to close out the second day of men’s competition. Aaron Austin of Prairie View A&M (9:49.98) finished second, and coming in third place was Texas Southern’s Xavier Martinez with a time of 9:57.54.
