Texas Southern 11, Alcorn State (F/6) Box Score IRONDALE, Ala. – Texas Southern earned a chance to defend its SWAC softball championship with an 11-0 win over Alcorn State in the second semifinal of the tournament.
The Tigers (27-17) were able to break the game open in the third. With TXSO leading 1-0 at the time – thanks to a Krystalani Yockman solo home run in the second inning – the Lady Tigers plated four runs, capped by a two-run single by Miranda Rodarte. Texas Southern continued to pad its lead, as another four-run inning, this time in the sixth, wrapped things up.
Alcorn State (18-27) thrice stranded two runners to end innings, as they were 0-6 with runners in scoring position.
Lauren Rodriguez (11-8) picked up the win for the Tigers, throwing 5.0 innings of shutout ball and allowing five hits while striking out four. Paige Breal (15-13) received the loss, allowing eight earned runs on seven hits. Breal ended the tournament with the most strikeouts in a single tournament on record (38).
