ASU wins fifth straight

ALEXANDRIA, La. – Alabama State won its fifth straight Southwestern Athletic Conference Golf Championship Wednesday in a rain shorten event at the Oak Wing Golf Club in Alexandria, Louisiana.
The tournament concluded prematurely due to inclement weather. Results from the first two rounds were used to determine the champion.
Collectively, ASU finished with a score of 563 and 13-under par. Co-MVP’s Branson Ferrier, Edd Hackett Jr. (Alabama State), and Tom McLaughlin (Texas Southern) all finished at 6-under 138 earning the tournament’s Low Medalist Award. Ferrier was tagged with the honor for the fourth time in his career.
Texas Southern finished second with 584 with Jackson State placing third at 632. Prairie View A&M came in fourth at 644, followed by Alabama A&M (652). Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Alcorn State came in tied for sixth place shooting a 660. Mississippi Valley State rounded out the scoring at 966.
Jackson State finished in third place with a team score of 905. Arkansas-Pine Bluff (964), Prairie View A&M (966), Alcorn State (976), and Mississippi Valley State (1214) rounded out the team standings.

ASU will face a team to be announced during the NCAA Men's Golf Regional’s Selection Show on Monday, May 2, at 9 a.m. CT on the Golf Channel.
