ALEXANDRIA, La. – Alabama State University earned its fourth straight Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship Tuesday afternoon in Alexandria, La at Links on the Bayou.  The conference crown marked the fifth out of the last six for ASU.

In back to back seasons, Chanelle Avaricio earned the league’s Most Valuable Player (Low Medalist) while Gaylahh Reed of Prairie View A&M was tabbed with Freshman of the Year honors.

Collectively, ASU shot a 597, five strokes better than last year’s total.  The Hornets concluded the afternoon with a total of 299 as five players were named to the all-conference team.

For the remainder of the team standings, Texas Southern finished second with 630 and was led by Hillary Washington. Teammate Allison Flores followed behind with a 157 for TSU

Jackson State notched third place with a team score of 670. Prairie View A&M (665), Mississippi Valley State (677), and a 405 from Alcorn State rounding out the scoring.

Prairie View A&M’s Bobby Johnson was named SWAC Coach of the Year
