NEW ORLEANS – Jackson State outlasted Alabama State 4-3 on Saturday afternoon, after a five hour rain delay, to advance to the 2016 SWAC Women’s Tennis Tournament championship match.

The Tigers will take on Alcorn State on Sunday at 9 AM for the title.

Alabama State won the doubles point, starting with a victory at No. 2 doubles as Gabriela Lackova and Nicole Tekelova defeated Bright Phakamad and Karina Ono, 6-4. At No. 3 doubles, the Hornets’ Marine Cartier Patricia Regel won 6-3 over Daria Butorino and Rebekah Adewumi.

In singles action, the Tigers battled back to take four singles points to get the win. JSU’s Julia Angermann defeated Arantxia Wijngaarde, 6-4, 6-3, while Ana. Zviahintseva defeated Lackova, 7-6, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. At No. 4 singles, Phakamad beat Regel, 6-0, 6-0, while Ono battled for a 7-5, 2-6, 6-2 victory over Tekelova at No. 6 singles.

For the Hornets, Cartier defeated Daria Butorino, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles while Irina Cvijovic won 6-3, 6-2 at No. five singles.
