HOUSTON, Texas – Janie Myles managed a season-high 24 points in the 82-74 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff Tuesday afternoon at the Toyota Center. With this win, the Lady Bulldogs move on to face in-state rival Alabama State, tomorrow at 6 p.m.
Myles finished the game with a team-high nine rebounds, one assist and two steals. She made 11 of her 18 shots from the field, going 75 percent in three-point range. Brooke Dixon came off the bench with 16 points and five rebounds, while Alexia DeBose captured a season-high 12 points with three assists.
The Lady Lions were paced by Niya Head who managed 21 points with nine rebounds and four steals. Destiny Brewton contributed 18 points, four assists and two steals to UAPB’s resume, while Kye Richardson came off the bench, hitting nine points.
Alabama A&M closed out the first half on a 13-3 run over the final 5 minutes and 49 seconds of the second quarter. Myles scored 14 points with five rebounds, while going six for 10 in shooting.
The Lady Bulldogs made over half of their shots from the field, while keeping UAPB at shooting 22.9 percent.
After being down by 18, UAPB used a 10-0 run to get within single digits. The Lady Lions closed the third quarter on an 11-2 run to bring the score 58-53. The run would prove not enough as AAMU ended the game with an eight-point advantage.
